Don’t start with “Hi, what’s up?” and nothing else. I will assume that you just want to chat and if I’m in no mood to do that I may ignore your message (no hard feelings!!). State your intentions right away with “Hi, I wanted to commission you” or something similar, so that I know you are a potential customer.
Collect your references and ideas BEFORE you message me. Opening up the convo does not equal to “booking” a slot. Take your time and come prepared. (This does not mean you need to have everything figured out. I mean situations like “I need some time to think of an idea” moments, when I am stuck waiting days in the middle of the ordering process.)
